Scalp Micropigmentation

Why Choose Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a simple and minimally invasive procedure that creates the appearance of a fuller head of hair by carefully and meticulously placing tiny pigment impressions amongst existing hair. These existing hairs are sometimes from transplants. Each impression replicates natural hair follicles, creating a realistic look that is surprisingly low maintenance.

When delivered by one of our experts who have worked with Dr. Epstein for years performing hair restoration surgery, SMP is performed artistically to give the appearance of naturally restored receding hairlines, thicken remaining hair, camouflage existing hair transplant scars, and/or create the look of close-cropped hair.

Scalp Micropigmentation is a non-invasive procedure, suitable for men and women. Unlike other hair loss treatments, it gives immediate results with no downtime.

Types of Scalp Micropigmentation Procedures

In Conjunction with Hair Transplants

Depending on the patient, a hair transplant might not be enough to cover all of the thinning areas. In those circumstances, adding SMP to the surgical procedure can help enhance the distribution of the hair grafts over a greater surface area. SMP is used to build up the look of density between the grafts, resulting in a more natural and fuller look.

1. Planning

As an additional step to the hair transplant, your surgeon carefully plans the graft and SMP distribution on your scalp. Also, any donor site scarring from a prior hair transplant procedure can be treated to look much less noticeable, even with the hair cut very short.

2. Pigmentation Session

After allowing the scalp to heal over 2 months, our experts lay the foundation of your new look by matching the newly transplanted hair’s color and density. Every detail –color variance, space filling, follicle thickness and more– is taken into account to achieve the best results.

3. Second Pigmentation Session

In most patients, a second session is needed to create a denser appearance with more pigmentation delivered to the scalp. This session usually takes place two to four weeks after the first procedure.

4. Post Procedure Care

The care needed for Scalp Micropigmentation right after the last procedure is simple and low maintenance. You only need to wash your head the fourth day after the treatment and, during that time, avoid any strenuous activity that will cause undesired sweating.

Combining SMP with hair transplant surgery gives certain patients the opportunity to have a fuller head of hair look than could be achieved by hair transplants alone.
